Open Venture Society is a new startup venture that was conceived during a conference where the company' co-founder, Danielle Lanyard, was presenting a tech for social change muultimedia project set in DR Congo. Fred Sullivan stumbled in during the last minutes of wrapup, and by the time the barcamp had shifted over to the actual bar, both stumbled upon an odd 'coincidence'. Fred and his firm, AV Drive, were working on the multimedia film for social change project, Lost Innocents, also set in DRC. After a few meetings, both were seeking out ways to ally their work for the greater good. Danielle's global ecotourism startup, Travelcology, was recycled into a local version by joining forces with AV Drive. And so Open Venture Society was born. This new organization's mission is to serve the needs of the current and next generation of social entrepreneurs, ventures and their local community. The founders' personal missions are to help entrepreneurs have it a little easier and to see more triple bottom line ventures thrive so as to create a global immune system of healthy entrepreneurs spreading ventures that care, everywhere. This current venture will operate as a consumers cooperative, which means it is built from the beginning to be shared, and to allow for all members to own a stake in its collective growth. In turn, the Society will share its resources with clients, members and community by providing great gear to get you on your entrepreneurial way: open source asp business products and services, a signature series of networking events, and a membership-based community rooted in sharing and harnessing resources to support sustainable development. Open Venture Society will use the above platform, services and events to help ventures innovate and collaborate by growing a communal network whose allied mission is to support each other and enrich the local and global sustainable business, nonprofit and development sector. Together.
